Developing a Functional cure for Patients with Type 1 Diabetes

diabetes remedy No Comments »

An implantable, bioartificial pancreas at the University of Arizona Health Sciences may soon provide a new treatment option for adults and children with Type 1 diabetes.

For the approximately 1.6 million people who live with Type 1 diabetes, insulin is a lifeline. Without it, the body can go into shock, resulting in organ damage, swelling in the brain and even death. Currently, the only way for a person with Type 1 diabetes to get this life-saving insulin is by regularly measuring their blood sugar levels with a self-administered blood test and then giving themselves necessary injections, or by using an insulin pump, an external device that delivers insulin as needed through a tube placed under the skin.

A UArizona Health Sciences research team led by Klearchos Papas, PhD, a professor at the UArizona College of Medicine – Tucson, is closing in on a better solution. Dr. Papas is developing a tiny implantable device that mimics the normal function of the pancreas, the organ responsible for insulin production.

Dr. Papas’ solution comes in the form of an oxygen-enabled implantable pouch packed with islets that are separated and protected from the body’s immune system. The device differs from an insulin pump in that it will closely mimic a normal pancreas and offer more durable, timely and accurate glucose sensing and insulin.

“The beauty of our approach is that instead of having to inject yourself with insulin, you have cells producing it on demand and releasing it as needed,” said Dr. Papas. “You essentially replace the physiological function of insulin production as close to what you had with your original pancreas.”

Create your own plate: http://www.diabetes.org/food-and-fitness/food/planning-meals/create-your-plate/

Food Portion Plate, A healthy diet plan for Diabetic patients
One strategy is to eat healthy portions.

This is your basic 9 inch dinner plate.

draw an imaginary line down the middle of the plate.

And then divide one side in half

Largest section is filled with non-starchy vegetables

Carrots, Salads, Broccoli, cabbage, green beans are a few examples.

Fill one quarter with whole grain or starchy foods like rice, corn, potatoes, bread, noodles

Fill the other quarter with lean proteins such fish, chicken, lean beef, tofu, or cooked dried beans.

Lean proteins mean meat with low fat content.

As the dessert you can eat a small amount of fresh fruit.

You can also have three portions of milk per day. But make sure to use skimmed milk or 1% milk.

The next strategy is to use the interactive web service American Diabetes Association provides. You can create your own plate with it. The link is mentioned in the description.

Working with your doctor or dietitian is also highly recommended to create individualized diet plans for you.

That’s it for today!

I’d really appreciate If you could provide me feedback in the comments section. Share this video If you know someone with diabetes. Thanks! I’ll see you soon with another animation soon! Take care.

He also goes over how to get rid of diabetes in the most effective and fastest way. Can just diet, weight loss, and exercise be enough to get cured of diabetes? Is there such a thing as a total cure? Diabetic patients look for solutions to high insulin prices

A major insurer announced it’s capping insulin costs at a month, but advocates say that’s not a solution to the problem. According to the Health Care Cost Institute, insulin prices have doubled from 2012 to 2016. Congress continues to hold hearings examining skyrocketing drug prices, but, in the meantime, patients with diabetes are looking for ways to afford insulin.

Insulin is necessary for those with diabetes to survive. Without enough insulin, they can develop a life-threatening problem called diabetic ketoacidosis. That’s when the blood sugar gets so high that the blood becomes acidic and the body stops function.

Adam Kozie, who has type 1 diabetes, drives from Seattle to Canada to purchase insulin. His doctor, Irl Hirsch, says he’s heard of people traveling to Europe and Asia to do the same.

Dr. Sarah Hallberg made several career pivots—all fueled by her anger at unscientific and harmful practices perpetuated by the medical community—before becoming Medical Director at Virta Health. In this talk, delivered on Dec. 15, 2018, at a CrossFit Health event at CrossFit Headquarters, Hallberg speaks about some of those unscientific and harmful practices, specifically those pertaining to the management of obesity and Type 2 diabetes (T2D). She outlines the physiological problems inherent in treating T2D with insulin, the benefits of treating the disease with a carb-restrictive diet, and the data from a recent Virta Health study that demonstrates the positive effects of carb restriction.
